After soaking a little, yogourt, chopped apple, lemon juice and a little bit of cream, are added and mixture is sweetened with either honey or maple syrup (we are from Québec); the next morning sliced banana and chopped hazelnuts or walnuts are added. Overnight Oats are all the rage and Bircher Muesli is no different, by allowing the muesli mixture to hang out in the liquids overnight it brings out the flavors, toastiness of the oats and the juiciness of the fruit. Soaking oats and fruit in yogurt is how muesli is traditionally made. Overnight muesli is basically the overnight version of bircher muesli. It has made my mornings so much calmer (and yummier too!) . Muesli is the champagne of oatmeal breakfasts. If you have digestion issues, leave out the chia seeds as some people can find them hard to digest. Chopped prunes is a great idea and such a healthy addition. Raisins are added with the oat bran. Love that you used muesli in yours as well. I LOVED it and can’t get enough of it. However, on Friday evenings, especially during my second year, I remember eating my bircher by candlelight in the dining room. I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to add all of the ingredients at one time. We made an incredible batch of muesli a couple weeks ago and I have gone through it so fast. These tried and true recipes are the best of the best and long standing family favorites. In the morning, simply grab and go! I would have it the following evening. What a lovely muesli! For an omega boost, stir through 2 tablespoons chia seeds. I guess it would also depend on the expiration dates of your yogurt and milk but as long as those are good you should be fine making a big batch ahead of time. Before serving, mix through the raisins and dried blueberries. Place the oats in a baking sheet in a single layer and cook until golden, about 5-8 minutes taking care not to burn.
