He delved into Woody Guthrie’s archives with the punk rock troubadour Billy Bragg for the “Mermaid Avenue” albums, a project that was covered in two documentaries. You’re playing some really cool lead electric guitar on this new album, more than you’ve done in quite a while. I'm not sure why that happened or how that happened, but I'm very, very grateful. Jeff, do you think that anybody has the capability to write a song, or do you think that people are kind of born with "the stuff" and then you hone the craft? I haven't been to the sea for months now but "Shore" brings elements of it right into my ears.

I’m drinking again  When did the idea for this new book, How to Write One Song, come up? “Love Is the King,” he adds, was born of a need “to sit downstairs in my house and think of the stupidest country song I can think of, just so I can say I made a country song” that day. Do you have any advice for how to stay creative when you’re also changing diapers or helping your kid with remote classes?

Just wanting there to be a wider section of my record collection to draw upon. Of a natural  “To me, those are just the forms and shapes that are easiest for me to think in.”, In his younger years, Tweedy bristled at those associations. I think that’s possibly true. The title track is simply astounding, with its borrowing of Debussy's La Cathedrale Engloutie (The Sunken Cathedral). Now it’s just going to be hopefully a slow, steady return to some normalcy.
